We are very excited to announce a special new release, born of an unusual collaboration. Our friend, author and New York Times magazine writer Jon Mooallem asked us to write a soundtrack to his new book, Wild Ones. We said, “OK!” and as a result we are pleased to say this soundtrack will come out digitally, on limited handpackaged CD AND on limited edition, clear 10″ vinyl. There is a pre-order here now, and you can also grab one of 50 special packages that include a copy of the book signed by the author and a copy of the CD or Vinyl signed by us! You can watch a trailer for the book here including one of our songs, “Dawn Departure, Jefferson County.”

Black Prairie will play a set on Ed Helms’ Bluegrass Situation Stage at Bonnaroo this year! There will be a “SUPERJAM” with other artists playing the stage including Aoife O’Donovan (Crooked Still), Del McCoury & Sam Bush, as well as Noam Pikelney (Punch Brothers) and some surprises for sure. See you there!?

We are pleased to announce Black Prairie’s first ever “network television debut” (as they say) on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which will air March 19th on NBC. No, the band has not decided what to wear… with the exception of Jon who will “most def not” dress as Captain Bluegrass, and Chris who “most certainly” will be in the same polyester black sport coat and that he has been wearing for the past 4 years.

A fixture of Portland’s music scene for more than 20 years, Pete Krebs, has cancer and no health insurance. We love music (and Pete in particular) and hate cancer, so of course we are throwing our weight behind a benefit show for Mr. Krebs that will be at the Wonder Ballroom on Thursday, Feb 21st.

Also performing will be Colin Meloy, Dharma Bums, Lewi Longmire, James Low, Casey Neill, and Sean Croghan. It’s gonna be a good time. Get tickets HERE, give all you can.
